Frequently asked questions
When you purchase a grave at Bromyard Cemetery this entitles you to the Exclusive Right of Burial for a period of 75-years for the interment of a coffin or cremated remains. The Exclusive Rights may be renewed for a further term at the end of the lease period.
The ownership of the grave and the cemetery land remains with the Town Council.
Only the registered owner(s) of the Exclusive Rights can be buried in the grave, allow other interments (space permitting) or erect a memorial/additional inscription.
Upon the purchase of the Exclusive Rights the Town Council will issue the owner with their Deed of Grant document. This must be kept safe as it will be required for the purposes of future interments, memorial works or transfer of ownership.
Possession of the Deed does not in itself signify the ownership of the Exclusive Rights of Burial.
The owner of the Exclusive Rights of Burial has the power to apply to the Town Council for an interment in the grave. This does not apply when the owner of the Exclusive Rights is being interred.
If the owner of the Exclusive Rights is deceased and a new interment is required – a new owner must first be appointed before any changes can be made – See below Transfer Ownership of the Exclusive Right of Burial
The owner of the Exclusive Rights of Burial may apply to the Town Council for permission to install a memorial on the grave i.e., headstone, flat plaque, kerbing or additional inscriptions.
*See price list for details.
You might need to transfer the ownership of the Exclusive Rights of Burial if…
- the registered owner has decided to assign the grave to someone else
- the registered owner is deceased, and you would like to apply for a new interment or memorial
It is unlawful to open a grave for a burial (including cremated remains) or place a memorial on it without the owner’s consent.
If the owner of the Exclusive Rights has been interred in the grave and another interment or memorial alternations are required, a new owner must first be appointed before any changes can be made.
Contact the Town Council if you have any questions about the process for transferring the Exclusive Rights.
